Describe your role with Fox Advancement. What energizes you about your work with the firm?
My role at Fox Advancement is a Lead Consultant. What energizes me is having the opportunity to partner with amazing clients who work tirelessly to make our world a better place. I am honored to be a part of a collaborative team making a difference for the larger nonprofit community.
What have you enjoyed most about working with Fox Advancement?
Having the opportunity to work with such a talented, responsive, genuine, and truly caring team of Fox Advancement professionals. The culture at Fox is one that focuses on walking hand-in-hand with each client; it’s a personalized and caring approach that I’ve not seen with other nonprofit consultancies I’ve worked with in my 17 years in this sector.
What is an example of a fundraising challenge that you’ve faced, and how did you overcome it?
At its core, fundraising is about building trusting and engaging relationships and treating donors as trusted partners. Strengthening donor relationships takes time, often time many nonprofits are hard-pressed to give. Helping nonprofit leaders create and execute specific strategies with donors can at times be challenging but is well worth the effort. Helping nonprofit leaders with building and strengthening donor relationships affords me personal and professional joy.
What is a particularly memorable interaction you’ve had with a client?
Working with Chad Poitra at Tiwahe Foundation. Chad is a powerful and impassioned leader. He works tirelessly to benefit the Native American community. In one meeting, we were discussing the feedback obtained as part of the Vision Impact Alignment (VIA) process when feedback from a particular interview struck Chad in a profound way. From that moment on, Chad began using that example as he created his strategic roadmap for Tiwahe going forward.
On a personal note: Describe your perfect day from beginning to end!
Start the day with a great cup of coffee at a cabin along the North Shore of Minnesota. Head out for a 5-10 mile hike on the Superior Hiking Trail. Picnic lunch with my family, short nap in the afternoon, dinner (seafood of course!) at Bluefin Bay Lodge, heading back to the cabin with a bottle of red wine and just sharing time with my family. Couldn’t be any better!
