Client Spotlight – Burnsville Promise is Showing Promise

PromiseBurnsville Promise, a community collaboration aimed at promoting academic and career success for area students, is showing promise.

A big step came February 25, when the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage District 191 School Board approved an agreement between the Inver Hills Community College Foundation and the district. The district will hire a Burnsville Promise coordinator whose salary will be paid by the foundation.

Burnsville Promise joins large and small businesses, community organizations, post-secondary education, early childhood education and District 191 in a cradle-to-grave campaign to not only educate but graduate, train and employ local youth, according to Kathy Funston, the district’s director of strategic partnerships and pathways.

It dovetails with the creation of career pathways that will debut next year at a reconfigured Burnsville High School. Coursework will offer post-secondary credits in preparation for further training and, in some cases, credentials for jobs such as certified nursing assistant.

Fox Advancement has helped Burnsville Promise raise more than $200,000 in funding, including grants from the St. Paul Foundation, the F.R. Bigelow Foundation and the Greater Twin Cities United Way.
